FAQ’s

Is this an audition?

Yes. We will be using this audition to determine our members and offer contracts

What will be expected at the audition?

Guard-Leveled dance technique through modern, contemporary and jazz movements. Equipment technique and handling through planes, tosses and choreography. Increased understanding of musicality through choreography, regardless of equipment. “Seeing what we’re hearing”. Improvisational skills through method of choice: dance or equipment. 

Brass and front ensemble auditions-you will be required to perform, both in group and individual, the audition music packets you were asked to download.

Battery-you will still be expected to download and learn the audition music packets. However, for the individual auditions you will be asked to play exercises and music you know and are comfortable with.

Drum Majors-Conducting and individual interview

Please be familiar with all music but does not have to be memorized. The audition will also include marching and playing performance for brass.

Who can attend?

Any middle school, high school or college student musician who is at least 14 and no older than 21 (if you turn 22 on or after June 1st you may audition and march). 

Are there any perks for groups?

Yes. If a group of 5 or more is from the same school audition, each of you will get a free Guardians lanyard. If you have a group of 10 or more from the same school, you will get a free Guardians T-Shirt. 

Why audition?

This is the greatest opportunity to march with a drum corps for the 2026 season. We have multiple openings in brass, front ensemble and drum major. 

What to bring?

All participants are required to bring a water bottle or jug and sunscreen.

Guard-A rifle and flag

Brass-a mouthpiece is required. A horn is requested if you have one to bring. Horns will be provided on a limited basis. Gloves are required.

Percussion Battery Snare-sticks, drum pad and stand are required. Drum and stand (if you have one to bring) recommended.

Percussion Battery Tenors-Sticks or mallets. If you have a 4, 5 or 6 drum tenor practice pad you may bring it if you don’t bring drum but not required. Drum and stand (if you have one) recommended.

Percussion Battery Bass-Mallets (if you have your own) are recommended but not required.

Percussion Front Ensemble-4 mallets are required

Will there be Orientation for new individuals to the world of DCI?

There will be an orientation/Q&A at 10am with the corps director Bill Greenberg and members of the board. Bill will talk about what it is to be in drum corps and what Guardians will be doing for spring and summer.
